Halcyon Gallery

Halcyon Gallery holds one of the largest contemporary gallery interiors on New Bond Street, with the ceiling height and wall runs to hang work at a scale most commercial dealers in the district simply cannot attempt.

The gallery was founded by Paul Green in 1982, starting in Birmingham before moving its centre of gravity to London. It has built a reputation on major single-artist exhibitions, including retrospective-scale shows of work by Bob Dylan that drew audiences well outside the usual gallery crowd.

Exhibitions are staged with the production values of a public institution rather than a shop, and the programme favours showing an artist in depth over group hangs. Painting, sculpture and editions run across the floors, with the gallery representing most of its artists directly.

There is no admission and no expectation. The shows are worth an hour whether or not you have any intention of buying, which is not something that can be said of every commercial space on this street.
