Jimi Hendrix Flat in Mayfair Shows Ronnie Wood Portraits to April

Ronnie Wood's portraits of Jimi Hendrix are on show in the Jimi Hendrix flat on Brook Street, Mayfair, until 11 April 2027, within a £14.50 adult ticket. Ronnie Wood: The Jimi Hendrix Portraits opened on 29 September 2026, according to the exhibition page at Handel Hendrix House, which we read on 26 October 2026.

Wood's show is small. At the launch Wood said he was unveiling 2 new portraits and 5 other works, Blabbermouth reported on 1 October, which makes 7 in all. Both new originals show Hendrix relaxing in this same flat, where the English Heritage blue plaque outside records that he lived from 1968 to 1969.

One notice matters more than the paintings for some visitors. On 26 October the museum's home page said its lift was out of service, and English Heritage places the flat on the top 2 floors of number 23. Our Handel Hendrix House listing has the map, and the house's own line, 020 7495 1685, is the place to ask about stairs before travelling.

Where to see Ronnie Wood's Jimi Hendrix portraits in Mayfair

Ronnie Wood's Jimi Hendrix portraits are at Handel Hendrix House, 25 Brook Street, W1K 4HB, from 29 September 2026 to 11 April 2027. The house opens Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, with last entry at 4pm. The show has no separate ticket; general admission covers it and both historic residences.

That address needs a word of explanation. Hendrix's flat is at 23 Brook Street and Handel's house is number 25, and the museum sells the 2 buildings as one visit. Its exhibition page gives both numbers. On every visitor page, though, the museum publishes 25 Brook Street as its address, along with the phone line.

Brook Street sits in the north of Mayfair, within W1 and the City of Westminster. Bond Street station, served by the Central, Jubilee and Elizabeth lines according to TfL, is the nearest Underground station by the museum's own account, and Oxford Circus is also close. By the museum's description Bond Street station is step-free, and Oxford Tube coach passengers are pointed to the Marble Arch stop.

So a visit to the Jimi Hendrix flat is booked through Handel's house, and one ticket opens both homes.

Ronnie Wood's portraits or Hendrix in London, 2 shows in one flat

Two Hendrix exhibitions are running in the house at once, and they could hardly be more different.

Hendrix in London opened on 19 June and is built from paper. Its exhibition page describes more than 500 items from the archive of Patricia "Trixie" Sullivan, personal assistant to Hendrix's manager Mike Jeffery. Letters and contracts sit beside rent bills, telephone bills, dry-cleaning receipts and records of music equipment. That route ends in the bedroom Hendrix shared with Kathy Etchingham, which the page says has been recreated in detail.

Wood's show works the other way round. By his own count at the launch it is 7 pictures, of which 2 are new originals and the rest, according to the museum, are prints of earlier paintings based on photographs of Hendrix. An archive tells you what the flat cost to run; these portraits are one friend's memory of the man who lived in it.

Wood met Hendrix in New York, while playing bass with the Jeff Beck Group, and the 2 later jammed together and briefly shared a flat in London, the exhibition page says.

Both are included in general admission, so there is no choice to make when buying a ticket. What differs is time and temperament. Hendrix in London has more than 500 items to read, while the portraits number 7. No end date is published for the archive show. Wood's closes on 11 April 2027.

Simon Daniels, director of Handel Hendrix House, framed the aim as celebrating "Jimi Hendrix's life, music and influence", in the launch coverage. Wood called the flat the best possible location for his work.

The lift notice and the step-free promise

On its visit page the museum offers "step-free, level access to the building" for wheelchair users, with disabled parking on Grosvenor Street. Read alone, that suggests the whole visit is step-free.

Two other published facts complicate it. When we read the museum's home page on 26 October 2026 it carried the notice "Our lift is currently out of service", with no date for a repair. English Heritage, which put up the Hendrix plaque in 1997, records that Hendrix lived on the top 2 floors of 23 Brook Street. And the Wood portraits are displayed at number 23, according to the exhibition page.

Neither page says how the upper floors are reached while the lift is out, and we have not guessed. Anyone who cannot manage stairs should ring 020 7495 1685 before booking. Carers go free, according to the admission list.

A similar caution applies to 1 date. Wednesday 18 November is listed on the visit page as closed for house maintenance, yet The Jimi Sessions with Greg Coulson play live in the Jimi Hendrix flat that evening, at 6.30pm and 7.30pm, for £25. Both listings may be right, a daytime closure followed by an evening event, but a day visitor who arrives on the 18th should expect the house to be shut.

Tickets, hours and the Christmas closures

Prices and rules below are from the museum's visit page, read on 26 October 2026.

  • Adult £14.50. Student £10.50. Ages 13 to 17, £5.

  • Children of 12 and under go free in a family group, up to 6 children per group. Carers go free.

  • National Art Pass and Historic Houses members enter free on showing the card at reception, but cannot book in advance.

  • Groups of 10 to 20 get 10% off each ticket. Larger groups and Blue Badge guides should contact the house first.

  • Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, last entry 4pm. Closed every Monday and Tuesday.

  • Book online at tickets.handelhendrix.org, or ring 020 7495 1685.

Christmas trims the season. Sunday 20 December is the last day before the break, and the house is closed from 21 to 27 December. It reopens from 28 to 31 December, with last entry at 2pm on New Year's Eve, closes on 1 January, opens on 2 and 3 January, and closes again on Wednesday 6 January before normal hours return on Thursday 7 January.

Mondays and Tuesdays are the easy mistake. A visitor arriving on a Monday morning finds Handel's rooms and the Jimi Hendrix flat both shut.

What a ticket to the Jimi Hendrix flat covers this winter

A £14.50 adult ticket to the Jimi Hendrix flat this winter covers Handel's rooms at 25 Brook Street, the flat at number 23, the Hendrix in London archive display and Ronnie Wood's 7 portraits, on show until 11 April 2027. Ticketed evenings, such as The Jimi Sessions at £25, are separate.

Ronnie Wood's 7 portraits of Jimi Hendrix hang in Hendrix's Brook Street flat until 11 April 2027, inside a £14.50 adult ticket.

Pairing the 2 houses is what makes the setting. Handel took the lease on 25 Brook Street in 1723 and died there on 14 April 1759, according to the museum. Hendrix arrived next door more than 2 centuries later, and once he learned who his neighbour had been, the museum's Hendrix page says, he bought Handel's Messiah and Water Music on record at the One Stop Record Shop on South Molton Street.

In February 2016 the flat opened permanently to the public, the same page says, and 23 Brook Street was chosen for an English Heritage blue plaque on 14 September 1997. The museum calls it the only officially recognised Hendrix residence in the world. Our older piece on Handel's house in Mayfair tells the composer's side of the street.

For the portraits, any Wednesday to Sunday before 11 April 2027 will do, apart from 18 November and the Christmas closures. Book a general admission slot at tickets.handelhendrix.org, leave room for the Hendrix in London archive on the way through, and ring first if stairs are a problem while the lift notice stands. National Art Pass and Historic Houses card holders can simply turn up.

Live music is the one extra worth deciding on now. The Jimi Sessions on 18 November, at £25, is the only date for them the house lists this autumn, and the one evening when musicians fill the Jimi Hendrix flat.
