Margaret Thatcher’s hair is the toast of Mayfair

Margaret Thatcher has dominated newspaper headlines since passing away from a stroke on 8th April 2013 at the age of 87. However, it seems that her legacy will live in on more way than one – not just because of her controversial politics, but also because of her iconic hairstyle.

Requests for ‘The Thatcher’.

In recent weeks, hairdressers across London have been inundated with requests for ‘The Thatcher’; the striking short, quaffed hairstyle that the former Prime Minister was known to have sported for many years. Celebrity stylist Maximiliano Centini commented, “I have not known anything like this for many years. We have now done the style for over 100 women, it is a surge … It is the perfect mix of feminine style with a hint of masculine power. I think for a modern woman that is now an ideal balance.”

However, what many people do not realise about Margaret Thatcher’s hairstyle is that it was developed right here in the heart of Mayfair. Thatcher visited the now defunct Chalmer’s salon in Mayfair in the 1970s, where her hair was cut, teased and spritzed into what became her trademark style.
