Culinary Sanctuary in Mayfair!

About

About Mercato

Mercato Mayfair is a three-level food hall and cultural venue inside the Grade I-listed former St Mark’s Church on North Audley Street, Mayfair, London. Run by Mercato Metropolitano and open since 2019, it pairs rotating independent food traders with bars, events and a genuinely memorable setting.

What you’ll find inside Mercato Mayfair

  • Ground floor (nave): the main food hall with a changing line-up of kitchens and plenty of communal seating beneath the church interior.
  • First-floor gallery: extra seating and additional food options, looking down into the nave.
  • Basement crypt: bars and restaurant space, a wine cellar, and the on-site German Kraft microbrewery, plus areas used for classes, live music, and private hire.
  • Rooftop terrace: outdoor tables for food and drinks in warmer weather.

Food offerings vary by trader, but you can expect a broad international mix suited to casual dining, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and responsible sourcing. It’s a strong option for groups with different tastes, quick lunches near Oxford Street, or an evening stop for drinks with something to eat.

A short history worth knowing

St Mark’s was built in 1825–1828 to designs by J. P. Gandy-Deering in a Greek Revival style. In 1878, Sir Arthur Blomfield remodelled the interior, introducing a Romanesque roof structure and architectural detailing. After being deconsecrated in 1974, the church spent years underused before returning to public life. It was also known locally as “the American Church” due to its proximity to the former US Embassy in Grosvenor Square, with President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Eleanor Roosevelt reported to have attended services there.

Visitor info

A five-minute walk from Marble Arch and Bond Street stations, and moments from Oxford Street. The venue is open seven days a week. Table bookings are typically available for groups of six or more; smaller parties are usually walk-ins.
