E. Marinella
Naples’ legendary tie-maker, in the Burlington Arcade.
About E. Marinella
E. Marinella has made ties in Naples since 1914 from a shop the size of a kiosk, and its London home in the Burlington Arcade keeps faith with that scale: a jewel-box space hung with the hand-made seven-fold and lined ties that have dressed presidents, princes and every Italian who takes his neckwear seriously.
The Neapolitan Standard
Marinella's silks are printed in England, by tradition, from archive designs running to thousands of patterns, then cut and sewn by hand in Naples with the generous proportions and soft hand that define the house. The result knots differently, fuller, with a spring machine-made ties cannot fake, and devotees claim they can spot one across a boardroom. Beyond ties, the shop carries scarves, small leather goods and fragrance, but neckwear remains the point and the pilgrimage.
A Fitting London Address
The Burlington Arcade, Regency London's covered luxury street patrolled by its Beadles since 1819, suits the house perfectly: heritage retail at heritage scale. The London outpost receives patterns and limited editions beyond the Naples core, and staff will archive a customer's purchases so anniversaries can be answered from history rather than guesswork.
The Ritual of the Tie
Marinella customers order in a particular rhythm: the classic prints first, the archive revivals next, then the made-to-order service where length, width and lining meet a chosen silk, ties built for the individual neck. Neapolitan legend holds that the shop's founder served coffee to dawn customers before work; the London arcade keeps gentler hours but the same courtesy. In an era of open collars, the house thrives on conviction purchases, and its clients, if anything, dress with more intent than ever. Gift purchases dominate December, when the arcade’s lanterns do half the selling, and the house’s boxes have become part of the present. Care advice comes free with every purchase, because a tie built by hand deserves to outlive its first decade.
