Historic 1800’s pub Reopens with Exciting New Look

The Market Tavern, a unique pub that’s a hidden gem in the often unexplored Shepherd Market area, recently reopened following an extensive three-week refurbishment, giving the iconic pub an exciting new look.

The pub has been given a facelift while keeping its traditional look and feel inside. Changes include all new soft furnishings, with two refurbished bars and plenty more seating.

Built in 1808 and close to the original site of London’s ‘Mayfair’, The Market Tavern oozes Victorian charm; the boudoir-inspired décor of its upstairs Chesterfield Room, available for private hire, is a nostalgic nod to a bye-gone era when this quaint area of London was famous for brothels and bawdy tales – if only its walls could talk…

With a traditional wood-panelled interior, luxurious Victorian period features and a private upstairs function room for hire, The Market Tavern attracts a diverse clientele, reflecting the village feel of the Shepherd Market area and holding the authenticity of a true British local at its heart.

Guests can tuck into all the pub favourites, including award-winning chicken smoked ham hock & leek pie, classic fish and chips and prime steak burgers, as well as a delectable range of Sunday, roasts to delight discerning guests. Are you looking for that Friday feeling? The pub will be serving up cool and crisp Veuve Clicquot at £45 a bottle all day every Friday – the perfect way to wind up the working week or start the weekend in style.

Along with the new food menu, guests will also be greeted with an extensive drinks menu, boasting a wide selection of craft beers, ciders and new-to-the-menu – cocktails.

Since reopening, the pub has also begun its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by working closely with charities such as FareShare (to help reduce food waste) and the Zero Carbon Forum.

Speaking about the refurbishment, the general manager at the Market Tavern, Jared Kropach said:
‘’It looks amazing! We can’t wait to welcome guests back and show off our gorgeous pub as well as our brand new food and drink offerings too.‘’

Following the extensive refurbishment and significant investment made at the pub, several new jobs have been created for the local area, with the team now ready to pour pints, shake cocktails and serve delicious food to guests.
