Next week will mark the opening of the sixth annual Pavilion of Art & Design (PAD) fair, London’s leading fair for 20th-century art and design. Located in chic Berkeley Square in the very heart of Mayfair, the event will see more than 55 international dealers and prominent galleries from all over the globe taking part. The aim of the fair is to promote the spirit of art collecting, to discover new emerging artists and iconic artworks that are available on the market today. Works from the realms of art, photography, design and even tribal arts will be on display and up for grabs in a fair that is designed to inspire not just the experts, but anyone with an interest in the art world.

Some of the notable galleries included are the Hamilton’s Gallery, Mitchell-Innes & Nash, Richard Nagy Ltd and Entwistle. Prizes are awarded to the best pieces and this year will be the first time the new Moët Hennessy Prize will be awarded. In conjunction with the Design Fund and the V&A Museum, the prize will be presented to upcoming young designers based in the UK whose work shows exceptional creative qualities and innovative use of materials, as decided by an expert panel of judges.

“Although the UK has some of the best and most competitive art and design colleges, we don’t always have the industry to match it”, stated Nigel Coates, a British architect and designer and President of the jury. “This prestigious Prize brings together the incredible talent that designers in this country have to offer and the aspiration of PAD London to promote that talent”. Artists that have been shortlisted for the prize are listed on the PAD website, should you wish to take a peek: www.pad-fairs.com.

The event kicks off on Wednesday 10th October and ends on Sunday 14th October. If you’re in the Mayfair area, it’s a must-see!
