Meander around Mayfair’s marvellous markets

Think of affluent Mayfair and markets are probably not the first thing to spring to mind. Yet ignoring the area’s amazing markets means you’ll be missing out on an unsurpassed shopping opportunity. Here’s our pick of the best markets in the Mayfair area that are well worth perusing on a sunny afternoon.

Dover Street Market

If the idea of six floors of design, fashion, art and home accessories sounds like heaven, you may never want to leave Dover Street Market. Don’t come here without your plastic; this is Mayfair, with prices to match! You’ll find an eclectic mix of avant-garde designers, from Raf Simons and Comme des Garcons to Hiroshi Fujiwara. A great place to find unusual gifts, you’re also practically guaranteed to source an outfit you can be sure nobody else will be wearing!

Portobello Market

“Portobello Road, Portobello Road, street where the riches of ages are sold,” so the song from Disney classic ‘Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ would have us believe! In fact, Portobello Road itself is just a small part of Portobello Market today, which is divided into 5 sections. On Portobello Road you’ll still find the antiques market, filled with all kinds of treasures. For fashion, head to the Westway area or check out the second hand goods at Goldbourne Road. Portobello is one of the world’s most famous street markets, and for good reason – whatever you’re looking for, you are sure to find it here!
