James Hyman Gallery is one of the largest galleries in Mayfair. It specialises in International Contemporary and Modern British Art. The gallery works with a select number of Artists and Artists Estates. The exhibition programme focuses on art of the last fifty years. It has a particular emphasis on the relationship between abstraction and figuration, and between painting and photography. Exhibitions include solo shows as well as specially curated thematic group exhibitions. James Hyman Gallery has the fastest growing photography programme in London and is committed to promoting photography both within the UK and abroad.
In 2008, James Hyman Gallery expanded its exhibition programme to incorporate British and International Photography. Represented photographers include Laura Letinsky, Karen Knorr, Mayumi Terada, Anna Fox, Lynne Cohen, Jem Southam, Albrecht Tuebke, and Elinor Carucci. In addition we also privately sell vintage photographs from both the Nineteenth and Twentieth Century. Our programme of contemporary painters also continues to grow rapidly and the gallery now represents over twenty artists. Our international programme includes artists from Canada, China, Ireland, Israel, Japan and the United States. Recent shows include Glenys Johnson (2007), Sun Liang (2008), Francis Bacon (2008), Hughie O’Donoghue (2008 and 2009) Bridget Riley (2009), Lucian Freud (2009) and Tony Bevan (2009).
